Sea Turtle Hatchling Released in Batanes as Part of Conservation Efforts

ROXAS, Isabela – A sea turtle hatchling was released along the coast of Ivana town in the island province of Batanes. This initiative is part of the ongoing conservation and protection program for sea turtles and their natural habitats, conducted by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO). PENRO anticipates that this activity will contribute to the increase of sea turtle populations and the maintenance of the ecosystem. The Philippines boasts rich marine biodiversity, serving as a nesting and dwelling ground for numerous sea turtle species. However, in recent years, sea turtle populations have been on the decline due to factors such as marine pollution, overfishing, and habitat destruction. The Batanes Islands, in particular, are considered one of the vital breeding grounds for sea turtles due to their geographical location. This release underscores the importance of collective efforts from local communities and relevant agencies in safeguarding the marine environment. PENRO remains committed to continuing similar programs and strengthening its sea turtle protection initiatives.
