Banteay Meanchey Police Chief Orders Intensified Crackdown on Online Scams and Illegal Gambling

In the northwestern Cambodian province of Banteay Meanchey, Colonel General Seum Sarith, the Provincial Police Commissioner, has issued a stern order to all police forces within the province to intensify crackdowns on online scams, illegal gambling, and all other types of criminal activities. This measure aims to ensure greater social security and order for the citizens. The directive was given during a meeting held on July 23, 2026, to review the operational situation and results for July and to set work directions for the following month. During the meeting, provincial police forces were urged to further strengthen their efforts in maintaining security, public order, and social safety for the citizens under the high command of His Excellency General Sar Thet, the Director General of National Police. During the meeting, Colonel General Seum Sarith emphasized the importance of maintaining stability at the grassroots level and outlined key work directions for effective implementation. These include strengthening the gathering and consolidation of information across the province regarding national security situations, particularly plans and information that pollute society, to strictly enforce legal measures. This also involves preventing and suppressing technological crimes and illegal businesses, eliminating markets that receive stolen goods, and eradicating illegal pawnshops, gambling, electronic betting, and all forms of online scams. Furthermore, efforts to combat criminal offenses and drug crimes are to be strengthened, with a focus on preventing all types of crimes, especially criminal offenses and drug-related offenses. The fight against human trafficking will continue, focusing on the trafficking of women and children, all forms of sexual exploitation, and illegal border crossings. The "Safe Village-Commune-District" policy and road traffic laws are to be widely disseminated to the local communities. Additionally, 24-hour patrols and readiness will be enhanced to ensure timely intervention in emergencies such as fires, with adequate personnel, vehicles, and equipment. In addition to these directions, Colonel General Seum Sarith instructed specialized forces, district/municipal police inspectorates, and administrative police posts to strengthen patrols for prevention, deterrence, and timely crackdown on crimes such as juvenile delinquency, illegal gatherings of foreigners, and online scams. Concurrently, border police forces are to pay close attention to monitoring all changes and abnormal information along the border lines to effectively prevent and suppress all types of illegal cross-border crimes.
