Myanmar, Thai armies meet to discuss strengthening cooperation on border stability, counter-terrorism

Discussions were held on strengthening cooperation between the two governments and armies, including border stability, development, and counter-terrorism in the border regions of the two countries. A delegation led by Lt. Gen. Warathep Boonya, head of the delegation from the Royal Thai Armed Forces that attended the 38th Myanmar-Thailand Border Committee Meeting hosted by Myanmar, met with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services of Myanmar, on the afternoon of July 1st at the Zeyathiri Thiri Beikman reception hall in Nay Pyi Taw. During the meeting, discussions covered the successful hosting of the 38th Myanmar-Thailand Border Committee Meeting by Myanmar, the existing friendly relations and cooperation between the two armies, and the situation regarding further strengthening and consolidating these ties. They also discussed the situation of damage and losses caused by the major earthquake in Mandalay on March 28, 2025, and expressed deep gratitude for Thailand's dispatch of rescue teams and relief supplies with humanitarian and good neighborly spirit. Matters related to mutual exchanges of goodwill visits, cultural delegations, sports teams, and trainees between the two armies were also discussed, as well as the situation regarding the successful implementation of border stability, development, and counter-terrorism through enhanced cooperation between the two armies. Furthermore, discussions addressed the situation of strengthening cooperation between the two governments and armies in combating illegal trade, narcotics, and online fraud and gambling activities. Attending the meeting with the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services were senior army officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), commanders, and military attachés (Army, Navy, Air Force) and officials from Myanmar to Thailand. With the head of the Thai delegation were the Chargé d'Affaires of the Royal Thai Embassy in Myanmar, senior officers from the Royal Thai Armed Forces, and officials.
