Rare Wild Animals Released into Natural Habitat in Vietnam's Dak Lak
Rare wild animals, including pangolins and tortoises, have been released back into their natural habitat in Vietnam's Dak Lak province. This initiative underscores Vietnam's commitment to biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration.
In Vietnam's central Dak Lak province, a conservation initiative has seen rare wild animals released back into their natural habitats. This effort is part of a broader, long-term strategy aimed at preserving biodiversity and restoring ecological balance within the country. The animals released include several rare species such as monitor lizards, pangolins, elongated tortoises (Indotestudo elongata), and impressed tortoises (Manouria impressa). These animals had been receiving specialized care, including quarantine, treatment, and rehabilitation to regain their physical condition and natural behaviors at a conservation facility. Following veterinary checks and behavioral assessments, individuals deemed fit for survival in the wild were carefully selected and released into suitable habitats. This rewilding effort is being conducted as part of a large-scale push within the park's core zone, with full technical backing from Save Vietnam’s Wildlife (SVW). It represents the initial phase of a long-term nature restoration strategy. Vietnam has been intensifying its efforts in recent years to combat climate change and achieve sustainable development goals. The country is actively promoting environmental conservation policies, including the introduction of forest carbon sequestration and storage services and preparations for the EU's Deforestation-free products Regulation (EUDR). However, challenges also arise, such as the increasing presence of certain wildlife populations creating difficulties for local communities reliant on agriculture, highlighting the need for a balance between biodiversity conservation and regional economic development. This release underscores Vietnam's commitment to protecting its rich natural heritage and building a sustainable future, often in collaboration with international partners. The successful reintegration of these animals into the wild is expected to contribute to the recovery of the ecosystem's balance. Copyright, VietnamPlus, Vietnam News Agency (VNA)
