Siem Reap Gendarmerie Arrests 15 Youths for Disturbing Public Order, Urges End to Lawlessness

In Siem Reap Province, northwestern Cambodia, the Provincial Gendarmerie has arrested 15 youths for engaging in reckless motorcycle activities that caused fear and public disorder. The incident occurred around 10:30 PM on July 18th, on a concrete road near the new airport in Kon Damrey village, Sophornichum commune. Responding to an emergency call from residents via the hotline 1296, gendarmerie forces apprehended the youths along with 12 motorcycles that had been modified with souped-up exhaust systems and illegal technical alterations, creating excessive noise. These actions are considered to instill fear in citizens and bring about anarchy in society. Authorities are strongly urging young people to immediately cease all delinquent behaviors that disrupt their studies, damage family property and honor, and cause fear among those around them. The 12 seized motorcycles have been temporarily held at the Provincial Gendarmerie Command. This measure aims to promote the understanding that maintaining public order is the duty of every citizen, striving for a safe and dignified society. This incident in Siem Reap highlights the challenge of balancing the province's image as a tourist destination with the need for peaceful living for its residents.
