Lang Son Province Prioritizes Dam and Reservoir Safety Amidst Rainy Season and Typhoons

Lang Son Province, located in the mountainous northern region of Vietnam, is prioritizing the safety of its dams and reservoirs during the rainy season and typhoon period. The province manages a large number of water storage facilities, and heavy rainfall increases the risk of landslides and flash floods, potentially impacting resident safety and the local economy. Consequently, dam and reservoir safety measures are conducted continuously and regularly, especially during the peak of the rainy season and typhoon period. The province is actively working to ensure the safety of dams and reservoirs against the risks of extreme weather-induced floods. This includes enhancing safety through the application of digital technologies, aiming to improve the efficiency of dam and reservoir management under recent extreme weather conditions. Furthermore, efforts are being made to strengthen dike safety protection measures by drawing lessons from past flood experiences (e.g., from the historical floods of 2024-2025). Warnings have also been issued regarding floods on the Dong Nai River and flash floods/landslides in Son La and Tuyen Quang provinces. Under Vietnam's one-party system, ensuring infrastructure safety is considered a crucial national responsibility. In areas with high natural disaster risks, central and local governments collaborate on mitigation measures. Lang Son Province's efforts highlight the importance of disaster risk management in infrastructure development, which proceeds alongside economic growth. The province's geopolitical location, bordering China, also means that the stable operation of infrastructure contributes to regional security.
