Man impersonating captain and recruiting for people's military service arrested with knives

A man who was impersonating a captain and recruiting people for people's military service was arrested with knives, mobile phones, and a vehicle in Taungoo Township, Bago Region on September 11, according to officials from the Taungoo Township Police Force. Information was received that a man named Captain Sithu Phyo (aka Phyo Sithu) was recruiting people for people's military service in Taungoo Township, and officials from the Taungoo Township Police Force conducted investigations. During the investigation, it was found that there was no captain with that name in the area under the command of the local military unit, and it was reported that further investigation was ordered in accordance with police procedures. Subsequently, police officers from the Taungoo Township Police Force and members of the border police force, along with witnesses, continued their investigation and received information that Sithu Phyo (aka Phyo Sithu), who was allegedly impersonating a captain, was at the massage parlor of the Global Grace Hotel in Ward 20, Taungoo Township, around 1:30 AM on September 11. They reportedly entered and searched the premises with witnesses. During the search, Sithu Phyo (aka Phyo Sithu) was found sleeping alone in the bedroom, and a military green backpack with the inscription TASHANHU was found next to the bed, containing a knife with a red string wrapped around it, approximately 1 foot in length, which was discovered and confiscated. In addition, from the front passenger side of the black KLUGER vehicle, YGN-12, 6E/9996, which he was driving, a knife approximately 2.5 feet in length with a black and blue sheath, a National Registration Card in the name of Maung Nyein Phyo, a driving license in the name of Maung Nyein Chan, two mobile phones, and a vehicle were confiscated. It was learned from police officials that the arrested person, Maung Nyein Phyo (aka Sithu Phyo, Phyo Sithu), is 29 years old, works in trade, and resides in Pya Che Kon village, Taungoo Township. "He has been doing business in the town for a long time. No one dared to say anything about this matter. We frequently see posts on Taungoo groups and pages saying they have been scammed. No one is happy. We are grateful for this arrest. If there are others, we want them arrested too," said a resident of Taungoo. It was learned that Sithu Phyo (aka Phyo Sithu), who was arrested, has been charged under Section 365 of the Penal Code in case number (P) 73/2026 at the Taungoo Myoma Police Station, and further investigations are underway to determine if he has committed other offenses in addition to impersonating a captain and recruiting for people's military service.
