Cambodian Lawmaker's Vietnam Visit Institutionalizes Legislative Ties: Scholar

The visit of Cambodia's top lawmaker to Vietnam is further institutionalizing cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries, according to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Neak Chandarith, Director of the Institute for International Studies and Public Policy (IISPP) at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP). Speaking with Vietnam News Agency (VNA) correspondents in Phnom Penh, Dr. Chandarith underscored the visit’s profound political and strategic significance for the traditional friendship between the two Southeast Asian neighbours, particularly in further institutionalizing ties between their legislative bodies. Vietnam and Cambodia have maintained a traditionally close relationship, and this visit is expected to further deepen that friendship. In particular, the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries within a more robust framework has the potential to contribute to regional stability and development. As a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Vietnam has actively promoted regional cooperation, and strengthening ties with Cambodia can be seen as part of its diplomatic strategy. The two countries are also aiming to boost exports through initiatives such as promoting cross-border e-commerce, and deeper cooperation at the legislative level is expected to facilitate these economic activities. The visit by Cambodia's top lawmaker to Vietnam is not merely a ceremonial one but is seen as opening a new chapter in bilateral relations, drawing attention from the international community.
