Home - Crime - Police Crackdown on Chinese Criminals in Thailand BANGKOK – Thai immigration police have arrested a Chinese man at a Pattaya condo who is highly wanted in China for a massive cryptocurrency heist. The 30-year-old suspect allegedly stole over 162 million baht in digital assets. He used advanced artificial intelligence tools to bypass strict security measures and drain victim accounts. Meanwhile, Thai authorities are expanding their nationwide crackdown on foreign crime syndicates operating within the country. Police are actively preparing to seek arrest warrants within two weeks for Chinese financiers allegedly linked to an illegal timber smuggling operation. This move follows a recent major raid in northern Thailand that uncovered over 100 illegally harvested rosewood logs. The arrested suspect, identified as Xin Zhang, fled to Thailand in July on a standard tourist visa. Chinese authorities had issued a strict warrant for his arrest earlier this year. They consider him the main mastermind behind a highly sophisticated cybercrime ring. Zhang and his criminal accomplices specifically targeted users of a major cryptocurrency exchange platform. To steal the digital funds, the group first hacked into victims’ phone data and online exchange accounts. Zhang reportedly developed custom AI face-swapping software for this exact criminal purpose. He used this deepfake technology to seamlessly impersonate the victims on camera. This clever trick allowed him to easily fool mobile phone operators into issuing replacement SIM cards. Once the criminals had the new SIM cards, they could instantly intercept one-time passwords sent via text message. This gave them full administrative control over the victims’ secure digital wallets. Within seconds, they transferred millions of dollars in digital currency to their own hidden accounts. Following the arrest, Thai authorities plan to deport Zhang to face charges in China. As immigration police celebrate this major cybercrime arrest, other law enforcement teams are heavily targeting environmental crimes. Recently, national park officials and highway police intercepted two large ten-wheeler trucks in northern Thailand. They quickly discovered 109 large logs of Burmese rosewood hidden carefully under heavy tarpaulins. The drivers had no legal permits or documentation for the valuable wood. The soaring demand for luxury rosewood furniture drives a massive, highly profitable illegal logging trade across Southeast Asia. Wealthy cartels often hire local villagers and loggers to illegally cut down these protected trees. Now, specialized investigators are aggressively working up the chain of command to find the real crime bosses. Police have officially traced the deep financial backing of this logging operation to foreign investors. They are currently gathering solid financial evidence to target the masterminds funding this widespread environmental destruction. As a result, officials plan to formally request arrest warrants for these Chinese financiers within the next two weeks. Thailand is sending a very clear message that it will not tolerate organized transnational crime on its soil.
