Foreigner's Land Sale Promotion in Bali's Kintamani Goes Viral, Sparks Concern

A video of a foreign national promoting the sale of a large plot of land, approximately 5,000 square meters (54 are), in the Kintamani area of Bali, Indonesia, has gone viral on social media, drawing significant attention. The video has sparked questions among the public regarding the legality of foreign land ownership in Indonesia. Responding to the viral video circulating on Facebook, Bangli Regent Sang Nyoman Sedana Arta stated that the regional Information and Communication Office (Kominfo Bangli) has begun an investigation. The Regent pointed out that the exact location and ownership of the land being promoted in the video are unclear. He commented, "It's not yet clear who the owner is and other details. It's possible someone is just creating content, the coordinates are unknown, and there are many state forests and private lands." The circulating video shows the foreign man standing against the backdrop of the Batur caldera, marketing a plot of land he claims has "the best views" in Kintamani. The man states that the land, with its panoramic views of Mount Batur and Lake Batur, is ideal for developers. Foreign investment in real estate is active in Bali, but land ownership regulations are complex and often a subject of debate. Direct land ownership by foreigners is particularly restricted, with lease agreements or ownership through local entities being more common.
