Pattaya Races to Finalize Preparations for Over 21,000 Runners This Weekend

PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya is entering the final preparations for the 33rd Pattaya Marathon, with more than 21,000 runners from 58 countries set to take over parts of the city on September 26–27. The race sold out in just two hours, with 21,727 participants registering for the event, highlighting its growing appeal among runners from Thailand and overseas. Pattaya officials and agencies are now working through final operational plans, with safety, traffic management, emergency medical services and runner facilities among the key priorities. At a recent coordination meeting, officials reviewed arrangements for the race routes, public-space management and coordination between agencies. The marathon area has been divided into eight zones, allowing officials to monitor conditions, coordinate responses and deal with problems quickly while reducing disruption for residents and road users. Deputy Mayor Krisana Boonsawad said preparations cover security, medical and first-aid services, traffic control and runner safety, with close cooperation required among Pattaya City, Chonburi province, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and other agencies. Road closures and traffic restrictions will be in place along sections of the marathon routes during the races, with officials preparing traffic-control measures to manage vehicles and keep runners safe. Residents, businesses and visitors using affected roads are advised to plan journeys around the race schedule and follow directions from traffic officials. The city is also preparing to accommodate the thousands of runners, supporters and visitors expected during race weekend, with the event expected to generate spending for hotels, restaurants, businesses and the wider tourism sector. The Pattaya Marathon is being promoted as a major sports tourism event and forms part of the city’s wider Sport City strategy. The race has received an Athletics Road Race Label and is included in the World Athletics competition calendar, giving the event an international platform. The official Amazing Thailand Pattaya Marathon 2026 race shirt was unveiled at a September 14 press conference at Dusit Thani Pattaya, chaired by Chonburi Governor Naris Niramaiwong and attended by Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet, city administrators, tourism representatives, safety officials, sponsors and private-sector partners. Organizers say the September 26–27 event will combine competitive running with Pattaya’s efforts to attract international sporting events and strengthen its position as a sports tourism destination. With race weekend approaching, officials are continuing to review traffic arrangements, emergency response procedures and inter-agency coordination to ensure the event runs safely while keeping Pattaya moving for residents and other road users.
