Prabowo Pledges Rp 3 Billion Bonus for Asian Games Gold Medalists
President Prabowo Subianto has pledged a bonus of Rp 3 billion for Indonesian athletes winning a gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games, a significant increase from the Rp 1 billion awarded for SEA Games gold. This move signals a strong commitment to promoting sports and rewarding national athletes.
President Prabowo Subianto has announced that Indonesian athletes who win a gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games will receive a bonus of Rp 3 billion. This is a substantial increase compared to the Rp 1 billion bonus given to gold medalists at the 2025 SEA Games. Speaking at the send-off ceremony for the Indonesian contingent to the 2026 Asian Games at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (9/9/2026), Prabowo mentioned a report from Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir regarding the SEA Games bonus. "And I haven't forgotten, I was given a report by Pak Erick (Minister of Youth and Sports), 'Sir, for SEA Games, a gold medal gets (a bonus of) Rp 1 billion'. But this is the Asian Games, a gold medal is Rp 3 billion," Prabowo stated, explaining the rationale for the increased amount. The President also expressed his intention to honor athletes who win silver and bronze medals. He cited examples of accelerating promotions for police officers who are athletes and coaches, saying, "We must not be stingy. If they are good, we should give them respect." Prabowo conveyed his gratitude to sports leaders and patrons who have sacrificed their time and energy to make Indonesian sports known to the world. He then urged the Indonesian athletes competing in the Asian Games to do their best to represent the nation and its people, and to demonstrate that Indonesian children are resilient, passionate, and never give up. A total of 432 Indonesian athletes will compete in 35 sports at the 2026 Asian Games. The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 event is scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 4 in Japan.
