Cambodian labor unions have hailed the reception of national occupational standards from the People's Republic of China as a significant step for Cambodia in enhancing the quality of human resources, developing vocational skills, and cultivating a skilled workforce aligned with international standards. Mr. Sam Suon, President of the Cambodian National Labor Union Federation, stated that the occupational standards from China will elevate Cambodia's technical and vocational education to an international level, thereby strengthening the provision of skills to citizens, particularly former workers returning from Thailand. "Cambodia can enhance its skills development and training to be better than before, in line with international standards and the norms of China, a rapidly developing and innovation-driving nation," he remarked. Mr. Pav Sina, President of the Coalition of Cambodian Apparel Workers' Unions (CCAWU), also noted that obtaining these standards from China is the best development for Cambodia to acquire additional specialized skills, thereby enhancing specific knowledge and expertise that meet international standards, which will make Cambodia a crucial investment destination. "If Cambodia becomes a nation full of skills and abundant labor, it will be a key factor in attracting investment, especially in competition with our partner countries," Sina added. The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training received the Chinese national occupational standards package, covering 16 specialized fields, during a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony with BYD Company. The collaboration aims to promote skills training, develop high-quality human resources, and prepare a workforce that can respond to new industrial demands, particularly in the electric vehicle sector and advanced technologies.
