Cambodian Parliament Speaker Visits Viettel in Vietnam, Seeking Investment and Tech Cooperation

Phnom Penh, August 29, 2026 – Samdech Mahat Thipadei Khuon Sodary, President of the National Assembly, and a high-level delegation visited Viettel, a leading telecommunications and technology company in Vietnam (operating as Metfone in Cambodia), in Hanoi. The visit aimed to study the company's technological development and to attract further investment from Vietnamese companies into Cambodia. Samdech President of the National Assembly highly praised and commended the company's progress, noting its investments not only in Vietnam but also in many countries globally, including Cambodia. She stated that Viettel's investment in Cambodia has significantly contributed to development through providing communication services to Cambodian citizens and paying various taxes. The Speaker emphasized that the digital revolution has permeated all aspects of citizens' lives, and in this era, being digitally illiterate would mean falling behind technology. Major General Do Minh Phong, Deputy General Director of Viettel, and his colleagues warmly welcomed the distinguished presence of the President of the National Assembly and her delegation, who took time out of their busy official and friendship visit to Vietnam to honor Viettel with their visit. According to the Deputy General Director's report, Metfone's investment in Cambodia since 2009 has provided employment for approximately 40,000 Cambodian citizens. In addition to investing in compliance with Cambodian law, the company has also participated in numerous social works. Furthermore, the company has plans to expand its investments in Cambodia and requested support from the Cambodian National Assembly. On behalf of the Cambodian people and the National Assembly, Samdech President of the National Assembly supported Viettel's investment in Cambodia. She stated that this investment not only provides jobs for citizens but also contributes to Cambodia's technological development.
