Vietnam Strengthens Global Ties Through High-Level Engagements

Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President To Lam has engaged in a series of high-level meetings with leaders of various countries, international organizations, and major US corporations during his trip to New York for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). On September 22, local time, Lam met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the UN headquarters, witnessing the exchange of cooperation documents between Vietnam and the UN. He also held separate meetings with President José Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste, President Guy Parmelin of Switzerland, and President Alexander Stubb of Finland to discuss bilateral relations. During his address at the Foreign Policy Association (FPA), Lam proposed four major orientations to steer and manage change, ensuring that competition does not turn into confrontation, differences do not lead to conflict, and scientific-technological progress does not create new divisions. During his US visit, the Vietnamese leader also met with representatives from US businesses, including the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), JPMorganChase, and Visa, where he received a report on the Vietnam War Accounting Initiative (VWAI). He also met with US Senator Steve Daines, a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. Furthermore, President To Lam began his state visit to Canada on the evening of September 23 (local time) at the invitation of Governor General Louise Arbour. Meanwhile, Vu Viet Trang, General Director of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), participated in the Media Forum marking the 65th anniversary of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) in Moscow. She announced that Vietnam will host the 59th OANA Executive Board Meeting in 2027, underscoring Vietnam's active contribution to strengthening cooperation and the role of news agencies in the evolving digital media landscape. These engagements highlight Vietnam's commitment to enhancing its diplomatic and informational presence on the global stage. Under its one-party system, Vietnam continues to diversify its international relations while pursuing economic growth and navigating geopolitical dynamics, particularly in strengthening ties with the US.
