Mayon Volcano Spews Ash After Lava Collapse; Albay Residents Warned of Ashfall

LEGAZPI CITY – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has warned residents in parts of Albay province to brace for possible ashfall following a lava collapse along the slopes of Mayon Volcano on Friday morning. In an advisory, Phivolcs said it has been recording ash emissions from the continuing advance and collapse of the toe of a new lava flow at the Mi-isi Gully in Daraga town at the southwestern flank of the volcano as of 11:30 a.m. The agency said residents in the south and east of the volcano “may experience light ashfall brought by weak winds prevailing over the volcano.” READ: Mayon Volcano’s effusive eruption continues for 192nd day On Thursday afternoon, residents in the villages of Lidong, San Isidro, Sta. Misericordia, San Antonio, Fidel Sirtida, San Fernando in Sto. Domingo town were also affected by ashfall due to the habagat.
