Preah Vihear and Siem Reap Provinces Sign Agreement to Adjust Administrative Borders

The administrative authorities of Preah Vihear Province and Siem Reap Province signed an agreement on administrative border adjustments between the two provinces on September 14, 2026. This agreement was made based on the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding, in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Interior. The signing ceremony was presided over by H.E. Prak Sophoan, Governor of Siem Reap Province, and H.E. Kim Rithy, Governor of Preah Vihear Province, with the participation of delegations, authorities, departments, and related units from both provinces. This signing follows the implementation of Letter No. 3199 Sanchon dated August 12, 2026, from the Ministry of Interior, which urges the resolution of administrative border issues between provinces, districts, and communes by November 30, 2026. H.E. Prak Sophoan expressed his pleasure with the outcome of the cooperation between the two provincial administrations, which successfully resolved the administrative border issues in line with the Ministry of Interior's guidance. He noted that Preah Vihear Province is the fourth province, after Kampong Thom, Banteay Meanchey, and Oddar Meanchey, with whom Siem Reap Province has successfully resolved administrative border issues. Concurrently, H.E. Kim Rithy stated that the signing ceremony is a testament to the active and close cooperation between the administrations of Preah Vihear and Siem Reap provinces in jointly addressing various challenges. His Excellency, the Governor of Preah Vihear Province, also requested that the authorities and law enforcement of both provinces continue to strengthen cooperation in border areas, particularly through timely information exchange and communication, to prevent and suppress illegal activities such as illegal border crossings, forest crimes, and unauthorized transportation. He also urged the administrative bodies of both provinces to continue maintaining good relations and strengthening cooperation from the district to the provincial level to ensure security, order, and development in the border regions.
