PHNOM PENH, Aug 7, 2026 (KPT) – A delegation of Hong Kong business leaders has voiced strong interest in investing in Cambodia’s high‑value sectors, including artificial intelligence, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing, following talks with the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), officials said Friday. The delegation was led by Dr. Jonathan K. S. Choi, Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, Chairman of the Guangdong‑Hong Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area Business Alliance, and Chairman of Sunwah Group. Choi and his delegation met Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice Chairman of the CDC, to explore opportunities across multiple sectors. Chanthol highlighted Cambodia’s competitive advantages, citing a young and expanding workforce, major infrastructure projects, institutional reforms and measures to strengthen public security, including efforts to combat online scams to boost investor confidence. He also pointed to reforms within the CDC, notably the rollout of the cdcIPM digital investment platform, which streamlines procedures and integrates with ministries to improve the ease of doing business. Choi said the delegation was impressed by Cambodia’s rapid transformation, describing the country as a safe and promising destination with abundant opportunities. He noted plans to bring projects in priority sectors such as AI and digital technologies, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, education, skills development and healthcare. The meeting also allowed participating companies to introduce their businesses and discuss potential projects, reflecting growing confidence among Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area investors in Cambodia’s economic prospects. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to translating discussions into concrete projects, with expectations that new investments will boost foreign direct inflows, facilitate technology transfer, create skilled jobs and support Cambodia’s long‑term sustainable development.
