Vietnamese President To Lam to Attend UNGA 81, Emphasize Global Contributions

General Secretary and President of Vietnam To Lam is set to attend the high-level general debate of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81). This participation underscores Vietnam's commitment to making active and responsible contributions to addressing global issues. The Vietnamese leader is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Politburo member and Chairman of the Central Commission for Internal Affairs Le Minh Tri; Politburo member and Chairman of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission Nguyen Thanh Nghi; Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Phan van Giang; Politburo member and Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang; Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung; Chief of the Office of the Party Central Committee Nguyen Hai Ninh; Minister of Finance Ngo Van Tuan; Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung; Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan; Minister of Agriculture and Environment Trinh Viet Hung; and Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan. UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Pauline Tamesis noted that Vietnam is transitioning from a beneficiary of international cooperation to an active contributor to global solutions. She emphasized that President To Lam's presence at UNGA sends a clear message about Vietnam's prioritization of the UN and multilateralism, especially at a time when international cooperation is critically needed. Tamesis highlighted the evolving, two-way partnership between Vietnam and the UN, where the UN supports Vietnam's development aspirations while Vietnam offers its experiences, leadership, and solutions to the shared global agenda. As Vietnam enters a new development phase, the UN anticipates a partnership that supports its ambition to become a developed, high-income country by 2045, while enabling greater contributions to peace, sustainable development, and international cooperation.
