P500 Pera Hike Deemed Insufficient by Deputy Minority Leader Tinio

Antonio Tinio on Thursday, Sept. 17, described the P500 increase in monthly allowance received by state workers in 2027 “woefully inadequate” after nearly 17-year impasse. Tinio said the P500-hike to the Personnel Economic Relief Allowance (Pera) was not enough, primarily amid rising commodity costs. He argued that the P500 increase falls far short of improving the purchasing power of government employees. Tinio urged the government to review the allowance more realistically, taking inflation into account. The lawmaker also proposed a "budget realignment" to fund the increase, suggesting that other budget items should be reviewed and reallocated. While further deliberation is needed on which specific budgets should be cut or transferred, Tinio stressed the need for the government to prioritize measures that support the welfare of civil servants. The P500 Pera hike was announced by the Philippine government as a step towards improving the conditions of state workers.
