BARMM Deploys 400 Cops for Flood Relief Amid Typhoon Inday

COTABATO CITY – On top of security duties, police authorities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) have intensified their disaster response efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and ensure public safety as Super Typhoon Inday continues to affect parts of the region. On Friday, Brig. Gen. Christopher Abecia, Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) director, said that a total of 400 police personnel have been deployed to various areas to conduct disaster response operations, especially in Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte. “We have over 780 personnel from the Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF) on standby for immediate deployment to reinforce operations in areas requiring additional assistance,” Abecia said. He said all police units are closely monitoring the affected communities, providing security in evacuation centers, and coordinating closely with local disaster response agencies. Abecia said police are securing 22 designated evacuation centers across Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur. At present, 278 families, or approximately 1,923 individuals, are temporarily sheltered in these facilities in Parang and in Sultan Kudarat towns. Abecia also said that police have carried out three road-clearing operations. Police said that, as of the latest report, no confirmed deaths, injuries, or missing persons have been recorded.
