Vietnam Rescuers Recover 11 Earthquake Victims in Venezuela

The Vietnamese search and rescue team has successfully recovered the remains of 11 victims from earthquake-stricken areas in Venezuela, an operation that underscored Vietnam's commitment to international humanitarian aid. On June 30 (local time), personnel from the Vietnam People's Army and the People's Public Security Force were deployed to La Guaira State, one of the regions hardest hit by the twin earthquakes. Beyond their primary missions, the teams also responded to requests from victims' families, extending their search to nearby areas for those still missing. The relief supplies amounted to a total of 45.6 tonnes, comprising 35 tonnes of emergency rations, 4 tonnes of medicines, 2 tonnes of canned meat, four generators, 500 tents, 10 large relief shelters, and 50,000 rolls of medical bandages. These provisions were aimed at providing immediate assistance to those affected. The delegation, comprising 124 personnel from the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Public Security, along with 10 search-and-rescue dogs and approximately 25 tonnes of humanitarian supplies, specialized equipment, and rescue gear, was dispatched to support relief operations in the earthquake-affected areas. Deputy Minister Senior Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen stated that the deployment reflects not only humanitarian support but also international solidarity and the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Venezuela. A field survey was conducted in La Guaira to assess the situation and prepare for the deployment of personnel and equipment for search-and-rescue operations. Under its one-party system, Vietnam places significant emphasis on its international role, including humanitarian assistance, with prompt responses expected during disaster events. The Venezuelan operation can be seen as an effort by Vietnam to strengthen its position as a responsible member of the international community. Furthermore, in its relations with China, Vietnam maintains an independent foreign policy, and such international cooperation serves as an example of its diplomatic autonomy. As Vietnam continues its economic growth, alongside domestic infrastructure development and social welfare improvements, it is also focusing on international contributions. This rescue mission demonstrates the capabilities of Vietnam's military and security forces in international deployments, which can contribute to ensuring a secure environment for domestic stability and economic development.
