Flooding Hits Takeo Province, Residents Urged to Exercise Caution

Parts of Angk Sorm Commune in Tram Kak District, Takeo Province, are currently experiencing flooding. Specifically, Prey Damrei village, Srok Chek village, and other areas have seen roads and some residents' homes submerged. During an on-site inspection on the afternoon of September 23rd, Mr. Huot Monoe, Governor of Tram Kak District, directed the deployment of machinery to excavate canals and facilitate water flow for temporary drainage. This measure aims to mitigate the impact on the residents. The district administration is continuing to monitor the water situation and is preparing to implement necessary measures to protect the safety and property of the citizens. Authorities are also urging residents to exercise caution, avoid traveling through deep water or strong currents, and pay special attention to children and the elderly. On the afternoon of September 23rd, the Takeo Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology announced that due to continuous heavy rainfall, the water level at the Khpob Break Reservoir has reached its capacity. Consequently, automatic gates have been opened to release water into the Slakou River. The department has also warned residents living along the Slakou River in Tram Kak District to remain vigilant. The flooding is attributed to continuous heavy rainfall in the region. During this period of the rainy season, river overflows and localized floods are common occurrences in Cambodia, often significantly affecting the lives of residents, particularly in low-lying or less developed areas. While the government is working to enhance disaster preparedness, responding to natural calamities remains a significant challenge.
