Cambodia Denounces Thai Territorial Invasion at OIF, Expresses Concern Over Border Issues On September 9, 2026, Ly Davith, Cambodia's Ambassador to France and Vice-Chairman of the Political Committee of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), attended the 260th meeting of the OIF Political Committee in Paris. During this meeting, Cambodia clearly stated its position regarding Thailand's invasion of its territory and the alarming situation that continues to occur despite the ceasefire coming into effect. Ambassador Davith pointed out that Thailand continues to engage in illegal activities in areas under Cambodia's sovereignty, such as the installation of barbed wire, containers, and other infrastructure. These actions were emphasized as a serious violation of Cambodia's territorial sovereignty and integrity. This situation is not only hindering the return of over 20,000 Cambodian refugees to their homes but also making it difficult for many children to return to school and live safely in their communities. Cambodia strongly urged Thailand to withdraw its forces from Cambodian territory and dismantle the infrastructure that has been installed. This would pave the way for refugees to return to their homes safely and with dignity. Cambodia reiterated its stance that borders cannot be changed by force or by altering the de facto situation on the ground that has been occupied. It was argued that all disputes should be resolved peacefully in accordance with international law and the existing legal framework between the two countries. In this regard, Cambodia called on Thailand to demonstrate goodwill and rejoin, without delay, the work of demarcating and marking the border through the Joint Border Commission (JBC) between Cambodia and Thailand, in accordance with the commitment made in the joint statement of December 27, 2025. Regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border issue, some countries have expressed their support, calling on both nations to strictly adhere to the ceasefire and resolve disputes peacefully in accordance with international law and existing agreements. On this occasion, Ambassador Davith also gave a presentation on important information related to the positive progress in preparing for the 20th Francophonie Summit to be held in Cambodia, reaffirming the Kingdom of Cambodia's commitment to the success of the Francophonie Summit.
