10 Indonesians in Distress Near Thai Border Receive Local Aid, Referred to Authorities

In Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province, ten Indonesian nationals who were found in a state of distress, lacking food and water near the Thai border, have been provided assistance by local residents and referred to the authorities. They are seeking intervention to be sent back to their home country. Local residents reported encountering two groups of Indonesians, totaling ten individuals, in a dire situation. Out of compassion, residents escorted them to the Poipet City Police Inspectorate. The police received them, provided them with food and water, and contacted the immigration department of the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Police Commissionerate to facilitate their transfer to the Indonesian Embassy in Cambodia and subsequent repatriation. Upon questioning, it was revealed that the ten Indonesians wandering aimlessly in Poipet City were without passports. This was because their Chinese employer had confiscated their passports and subsequently disappeared. Lacking passports, they were unable to travel anywhere and were suffering from hunger and thirst, leading them to seek help from local residents who then brought them to the authorities. Local residents further stated that there are currently many foreigners in Poipet City who lack food and water and resort to begging. A significant number of these are Indonesians and Chinese, whom residents have taken pity on and provided with food and drinks.
