Vietnam Women Suffer Pelvic Floor Disorders: Doctor Highlights Current Situation and Challenges
Many women in Vietnam suffer from pelvic floor disorders, but often delay seeking medical help due to embarrassment, leading to worsened conditions. The director of Tu Du Hospital highlights the severity of this issue and the importance of early detection and treatment.
Many women in Vietnam are suffering from pelvic floor disorders, but are hesitant to openly discuss their symptoms and endure them silently for extended periods. Some women only seek medical attention when their uterus has completely prolapsed, dragging the bladder out with it. The director of Tu Du Hospital pointed out that these conditions significantly impact women's quality of life. Pelvic floor disorders, often caused by weakened pelvic floor muscles due to childbirth, aging, or obesity, can lead to urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and organ prolapse. However, in Vietnamese society, these symptoms are often considered embarrassing, leading to delays in seeking medical consultation. The director emphasized that early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are crucial to prevent the progression of symptoms and improve women's health and quality of life. There is a growing need to enhance societal understanding of pelvic floor disorders and create an environment where women feel more comfortable consulting medical professionals. Under Vietnam's one-party system, healthcare policies are government-led. However, raising individual health awareness and breaking down social taboos also require grassroots efforts. While economic growth continues, addressing these 'invisible' health issues is essential for improving the quality of life for the general population.
