Vietnam Celebrates ASEAN Anniversary, Pledges Enhanced Diplomacy

Party General Secretary and State President To Lam on August 4 received ASEAN ambassadors and chargés d'affaires in Hanoi on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of ASEAN, the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, and the 31st anniversary of Vietnam's accession to the regional bloc. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has called on the foreign affairs sector to strengthen its role in supporting national development by adopting more innovative thinking and drastic action for tangible results. Amid rapid global change and intensifying strategic competition among major powers, the Communist Party of Vietnam's Resolution No. 06 is providing fresh momentum for the country's foreign affairs, helping elevate Vietnam's international standing while expanding new opportunities for national development. Party General Secretary and State President To Lam on August 1 urged Vietnam's diplomatic sector to play a pioneering role by strengthening strategic research, improving forecasting, providing sound policy advice and taking timely action to safeguard national interests and support development. To achieve its net-zero emissions target by 2050, Vietnam will require substantial capital for green projects, the circular economy and ESG transition. In this context, refining policy mechanisms, expanding the green finance ecosystem and creating stronger incentives for businesses to transition are seen as breakthrough solutions to accelerate the development of green credit in the years ahead. General Secretary and President Lam congratulated the ambassador on the successful completion of his mission in Vietnam and wished him further success in his new position, expressing confidence that he will continue contributing to Malaysia's diplomacy and the development of bilateral ties.
