State Administration Council Chairman calls on the public to cooperate with the fuel conservation policy of the odd/even system and Work From Home on Wednesdays

State Administration Council Chairman Min Aung Hlaing stated that the public is urged to cooperate with the fuel conservation policy of the odd/even system and Work From Home on Wednesdays. "By designating odd/even days for motor vehicles and implementing Work From Home on Wednesdays, we have been able to reduce fuel consumption. This reduction has saved 1.2 million gallons of fuel per day, resulting in savings of US$7 million per day and US$210 million per month, and a total saving of over US$1 billion to date. We urge the public to also practice frugality and cooperate," stated State Administration Council Chairman Min Aung Hlaing in his State of the Nation address on the 100th day of the government's term, delivered at the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw on July 31. In 2024, crude oil prices hovered around US$84 per barrel, and in 2025, around US$72 per barrel. After the outbreak of the Middle East conflict in 2026, crude oil prices rose to as high as US$126 per barrel. Consequently, the production costs of businesses dependent on fuel have increased. Myanmar imports fuel worth US$5 billion annually, and to overcome this difficulty, it is necessary to adhere to and implement fuel conservation as a national policy, the State Administration Council Chairman stated. "Our government is promoting the railway sector to reduce dependence on fuel," stated the State Administration Council Chairman. He further stated that under the new government's 100-day plan, upgrades were carried out on the Yangon-Mandalay, Yangon-Mawlamyine, and Yangon-Pyay railway lines.
