Knife-Wielding Robber Apprehended After Hanoi Supermarket Incident

Officers from Dai Mo Ward Police, in coordination with the Major Crimes Squad under the Hanoi Municipal Police’s Criminal Police Division, have taken Luong Van Tien (born 2000, residing in Thuan Chau Commune, Son La Province) into custody to investigate allegations of robbery. According to preliminary findings, on the afternoon of August 30, Tien walked into a supermarket in Dai Mo Ward under the guise of shopping. Taking advantage of the moment an employee opened the cash register drawer, Tien suddenly brandished a knife, demanded the cash, and threatened to kill the worker if they refused. Observing the cashier stay alert, slam the drawer shut, and retreat to a corner, Tien vaulted over the checkout counter to corner the employee with the knife. However, fearing imminent detection, he failed to take any money. Instead, he snatched the worker’s mobile phone and fled the scene. Immediately upon receiving the emergency report, Dai Mo Ward Police teamed up with the Major Crimes Squad to canvass the neighborhood, trace surveillance leads, and map out the suspect’s escape path. By the afternoon of September 1, law enforcement tracked down and apprehended Tien while he was hiding in Dong Quan Residential Area, Le Ho Ward, Ninh Binh Province. Further background checks revealed that the motorbike Tien used during his escape had also been stolen. Police investigators confirmed that Tien suffers from drug addiction, seldom stayed at home, drifted around Hanoi, and worked as an itinerant house painter to get by.
