Cambodian Ambassador Urges Japanese Investors to Explore Investment Opportunities in Cambodia

Ambassador Chum Sontry of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Japan highlighted investment opportunities and potential in Cambodia during a private seminar titled "Investment Opportunity in Cambodia," held in Osaka, Japan. The seminar, organized by MIRAKU Capital & Development Co., Ltd. on September 16, 2026, was attended by Japanese investors, company representatives, and business leaders interested in Cambodia. Ambassador Chum emphasized the strong and long-standing relationship between Cambodia and Japan, commending Japanese companies for their contributions to Cambodia, recognized for their quality, professionalism, technology, skill development, and responsible business practices. He noted the focus on strengthening economic and business cooperation between Cambodia and the Osaka-Kansai region, mentioning his meeting with the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) on September 15 to discuss enhanced economic and business ties. The Ambassador also recalled the successful Cambodia Investment Forum organized by OCCI during Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol's visit to Osaka in June 2026. He presented Cambodia's advantages and potential for foreign investors, including an open and favorable investment climate, access to regional and international markets through ASEAN and RCEP, a young and active workforce, a strategic geographical location, improving connectivity, and the government's commitment to promoting the private sector. Ambassador Chum encouraged Japanese companies, particularly Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Osaka and the Kansai region, to increase their participation and explore investment opportunities in Cambodia, especially in sectors such as manufacturing, food processing and agri-business, logistics, infrastructure, clean energy, digital technology, healthcare, tourism, and human resource development. He reiterated that the Cambodian Embassy in Japan is ready to act as a bridge for Japanese businesses, facilitating and connecting interested companies with the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), relevant ministries and institutions, the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, and potential Cambodian business partners. Before concluding, Ambassador Chum informed the seminar participants about Cambodia's campaign to combat and eradicate technology-related fraud, detailing the key actions taken by Cambodian authorities, the results achieved so far, and the way forward.
