PM Hun Manet Urges Students to Strengthen Competencies for Real-World Competition

Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia has strongly urged students to enhance their competencies for real-world competition, emphasizing that academic scores alone are insufficient. Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the Royal University of Law and Economics (RULE) on August 6, 2026, in Phnom Penh, the Prime Minister stated that the competition for grades within educational institutions differs significantly from the competition faced in real life after graduation. He expressed concern over a tendency among some students to opt for institutions with lax discipline, seeking degrees through dishonest methods simply to graduate. Prime Minister Hun Manet cautioned that such an approach would not equip them with the necessary skills to compete effectively in the demanding job market. "We must not study merely to achieve A grades and obtain a diploma without true understanding. Some individuals prefer schools where it is easy to get by without much effort, obtaining degrees with ease," he remarked. "Nowadays, with AI, homework can be done easily, but remember, when you go to compete in life, there will be no teachers to help you or grant you points. Competition in society is extremely difficult." The ceremony saw the graduation of 4,001 students with Bachelor's and Master's degrees from RULE. The Prime Minister also presided over the inauguration of a new 6-story academic building, parking lot, and office space within the university premises.
