Vietnam, Cambodia Leaders Emphasize Party and Parliamentary Ties

Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held talks with President of the Cambodian National Assembly Heng Samrin in Hanoi, emphasizing the important role of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Cambodian People's Party in the bilateral relationship. During the meeting, the crucial role of the Parties in providing strategic direction for bilateral and trilateral relations (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia) was reaffirmed. They agreed to make full use of existing cooperation mechanisms, including meetings among the three countries' prime ministers, parliamentary leaders, defence ministers, public security ministers, and foreign ministers. This underscores Vietnam's emphasis on political and strategic coordination with neighboring countries, particularly as a one-party state in Southeast Asia. Relations with Cambodia are vital for Vietnam, serving as a foundation for geopolitical stability and economic cooperation in the Mekong region. Both nations consider close collaboration essential for sustained economic growth and expanding regional influence. Furthermore, efforts to strengthen people-to-people ties are evident through initiatives such as promoting cross-border e-commerce to boost exports, children's friendship festivals, and paying tribute to fallen soldiers.
