Kanye West Concert in Jakarta Expected to Boost Indonesian Tourism and Global Standing
Kanye West's upcoming concert in Jakarta is anticipated to have a significant economic impact, extending beyond a mere music show. The Indonesian Minister of Tourism highlighted benefits from ticket sales, facility rentals, vendor activities, and job creation. Indonesia is the sole Southeast Asian stop on the tour.
Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated that the concert "YE Live in Jakarta 2026," scheduled for October 24, 2026, at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta, is more than just a world-class music show. It is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the community. Speaking to ANTARA, Wardhana highlighted the economic impact, saying, "We can see the economic impact from the value of ticket purchases, the rental of facilities and infrastructure for concerts, production activities by vendors and participants in the music, culinary, and concert industry, to the creation of jobs." The concert is part of a tour promoting the album "Bully," and Indonesia is the sole Southeast Asian stop. The Minister of Tourism sees the YE concert as an opportunity to promote Indonesian tourism services. "We invite all of us to show that Indonesia is not only a beautiful place to visit but also a place that is capable of providing a world-class experience, including through the holding of global-scale music concerts," she said. The Ministry of Tourism supports business improvements in organizing events and activities that attract tourist visits, aiming to strengthen Indonesia's position as a host of world-class music concerts. For 2026, the ministry targets supporting over 25 international-scale events. According to ministry data, from January to July 2026, the ministry supported the implementation of 105 events, including 18 national, 10 international, and 61 regional events. These events involved over 11,000 micro, small, and medium business actors, as well as more than 184,000 art workers and community members. The events collectively attracted over 6.4 million visitors and generated a turnover of approximately Rp1.09 trillion.
