Thailand Strengthens Data Protection Rules for Smart Devices

The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) of Thailand is preparing to implement new data security regulations for everyday connected devices, including smart gadgets, surveillance cameras, and modern power grids, in response to the growing threat of cyberattacks. While these smart devices offer significant convenience to modern life, their connected nature makes them vulnerable to cyber threats, increasing the risk of personal and sensitive data leakage. Household surveillance cameras and smart home devices, in particular, can inadvertently allow unauthorized access, leading to privacy breaches. To address these risks, the NCSA plans to require device manufacturers and service providers to adhere to stricter data protection standards. This is expected to include enhanced transparency in data collection, storage, processing, and transmission, as well as mandatory technical measures to prevent unauthorized access.
