Cambodia Intensifies Nationwide Crackdown on Online Scams

A nationwide crackdown on technology-based online scam crimes is being intensified across Cambodia. On October 10th, Mr. Chea Sokrit, Deputy Governor of Kampong Chhnang Province, participated in a Zoom meeting chaired by H.E. General Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and H.E. General Net Savoeun, Deputy Prime Minister and President of the National Authority for Combating Drugs. During the meeting, Mr. Chea Sokrit stated that it was to monitor the progress of work in cracking down on online scams. All competent authorities in the 25 provinces and cities are increasing their efforts to sweep, investigate, and crack down on locations where small or large criminal activities are being secretly conducted, in accordance with the strict orders of the Prime Minister of Cambodia. He further emphasized that preventing illegal activities, including technology-based fraud, is a crucial part of the government's strategy to strengthen public security and combat criminal networks. This is part of the broad implementation of laws to effectively crack down on online scam groups. Additionally, the risks faced by children online and potential dangers were discussed, along with ensuring their full benefits from the internet. As children grow up in a digital world, they are also vulnerable to online risks. Relevant officials are urged to actively participate in preventing online scams, a global challenge that requires a joint approach, international cooperation, and national coordination.
