Road Worker Maintaining National Highway 1 Dies After Being Hit by Car

A 30-year-old male worker, Tran Son Kiet, was fatally struck by a car while clearing debris on National Highway 1 in Lam Dong province on the afternoon of September 5. The incident occurred around 1:30 PM in Duc Hoa village, Ham Thuan commune. Kiet was working with a team of colleagues on the Ong Tam bridge section of the highway when a car traveling from north to south, with a Hanoi license plate and driven by Le Hong Phuc, 29, from Dak Lak, collided with him. The impact threw Kiet towards the roadside. Colleagues attempted first aid and transported him to Binh Thuan General Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. Kiet was an employee of Saigon Infrastructure Development Investment Corporation, the company responsible for maintaining this section of National Highway 1. Two other individuals were in the car at the time of the accident. Preliminary police findings suggest the driver's failure to observe the road led to the collision. Phuc's breathalyzer test showed an alcohol concentration of 0.023 mg/l, with a negative result for narcotics. Warning cones were placed in the work area. The car involved in the accident sustained damage to its front end and a broken windshield. Authorities have conducted on-site inspections, an autopsy, reviewed surveillance footage, and interviewed the driver and relevant parties. In a separate incident in Lam Dong province around 11:30 AM the same day, Nguyen Canh Quy, 43, died after a concrete gate pillar he was helping to dismantle collapsed on him.
