Cambodia Has No Ambition to Invade Any Country, Says Army Commander to Malaysian and Singaporean Officials

Army Commander General Vong Pisen has once again affirmed to Malaysian and Singaporean military officials, who are members of the ASEAN Observer Team, that "Cambodia has no ambition to invade the territory or wage war with any country." While this statement did not explicitly name any country, it is understood to be directed at Thailand, with which Cambodia is currently experiencing border disputes. The Cambodia-Thailand border dispute has led to two instances of military tension along the border, stemming from an initial attack by the Thai military on Cambodian forces in 2025. This has escalated into a protracted border conflict issue that continues to this day, despite interventions from the international community and ceasefire agreements. General Vong Pisen stated that Cambodia, having experienced prolonged war and having achieved full peace for the last 27 years, clearly understands the value of peace and always prioritizes peaceful problem-solving. He asserted that Cambodia continues to maintain its stance and commitment to resolving border issues peacefully and in accordance with international law. He added that as an ASEAN member, Cambodia supports maintaining ASEAN solidarity, unity, and centrality to jointly promote peace, prosperity, and development in the region. These remarks were made during a meeting with AOT members from Malaysia and Singapore, who concluded their mission on the afternoon of September 23, 2026. Through this meeting, Commander-in-Chief Vong Pisen expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the governments and armies of Malaysia and Singapore for sending military officers to participate in the observation mission on the Cambodia-Thailand border. He highly praised the AOT members for performing their duties with professionalism, neutrality, transparency, and high responsibility. The Commander-in-Chief also affirmed Cambodia's full support and coordination for the AOT mission to observe actual locations along the Cambodia-Thailand border to record and collect information accurately, neutrally, and in a timely manner, with transparency and professionalism.
