Dinh Thi Mai Appointed Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences

The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences held a conference on the afternoon of September 3 to announce the decision from the Secretariat of the Central Committee to appoint Ms. Dinh Thi Mai as Vice President of the Academy. Ms. Mai previously served as Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission. This appointment is understood to aim at strengthening the organizational structure of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and further enhancing its role in the nation's development strategies. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences is a crucial state institution responsible for research, policy recommendations, and human resource development in the field of social sciences. Particularly, with Vietnam's rapid economic growth in recent years and its rising international profile, the importance of policy formulation based on social science insights has been increasing. Ms. Mai's transfer is believed to be intended to leverage her experience in propaganda and education to promote social science research and support the execution of party and state policies. Vietnam, under its one-party system, prioritizes economic growth as a key national objective, and strengthening the theoretical and policy-based foundations to support this growth is indispensable for state governance. Furthermore, considering the complex relationship with China and geopolitical shifts in the Southeast Asian region, rigorous social science research from an independent perspective is more critical than ever to protect Vietnam's national interests and achieve sustainable development.
