Thailand Fully Prepared for Cambodia's Border Dispute at UNGA 81

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul stated that Thailand is "fully prepared" to handle the situation should Cambodia decide to raise the issue of the Thai-Cambodian border dispute at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81). The Prime Minister added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is confident in the steps taken and the current developments. Thailand and Cambodia are currently engaged in negotiations under the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Last week, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow met with the Cambodian delegation for their first session, where Thailand's stance was clearly articulated. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains that negotiations within the UNCLOS framework are the appropriate path forward. This border dispute is a long-standing issue between the two nations, and its potential raising on an international stage could have implications for bilateral relations and regional stability.
