MPs and Ministry of Interior Crack Down on Illegal Gambling Den in Din Daeng, Bangkok

The Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with parliamentary committees (Police Committee and Anti-Money Laundering Committee), has raided an illegal gambling den in the Din Daeng district of Bangkok. Deputy Minister of Interior, Worasit Liangprasit, along with Mr. Chaichana Dechdecho, an MP for the Democrat Party and advisor to the Police Committee, and Mr. Phitakadet Dechdecho, an MP for Nakhon Si Thammarat and Chairman of the Anti-Money Laundering Committee, led a special task force from the Department of Provincial Administration under the Ministry of Interior to surround and arrest individuals at a gambling den in the Din Daeng area. Deputy Minister Worasit announced that the operation resulted in the arrest of 53 individuals, including 8 organizers (two foreign women and six Thai men). Preliminary investigations revealed that the gambling operation was conducted within a modified apartment. The stakes involved, including cash and chips, amounted to approximately 1 million baht, with about 350,000 baht in cash seized. The game played was Hi-Lo. The raid was conducted urgently based on tips from concerned citizens. Investigations suggest the establishment had been operating for a short period and was operating out of a rented property. Further inquiries will be made to determine if the property owner was aware of the illegal activity and to investigate the operational structure and profit distribution of the gambling ring.
