Cambodian PM Honors Indigenous Midwives on International Day

Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia has issued a celebratory message on the occasion of the 32nd International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples and the 22nd such day observed in Cambodia. The theme for this year, "Uplifting the Role of Indigenous Midwives to Protect Lives and Promote Well-being," highlights the integration of traditional knowledge with modern healthcare for improved health outcomes in indigenous communities. The Prime Minister lauded the vital role that traditional knowledge and skills, honed over generations by indigenous midwives, play in maintaining community health. He also emphasized the importance of linking these traditional practices with contemporary medical systems to advance effective health management and life-saving initiatives for mothers and children. This international observance aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced by indigenous communities worldwide and to promote respect for their rights and cultures. In Cambodia, efforts are underway to harmonize indigenous communities' cultural heritage with modern society, fostering a nation where people from diverse ethnic backgrounds coexist.
