Vietnam's Top Leader Reaffirms Commitment to Peace, Cooperation, Development at UNGA

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam delivered a significant address at the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 22 (local time), reaffirming Vietnam's consistent choice of peace, cooperation, and development. During his speech, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that Vietnam is a nation that chooses "peace, cooperation, and development." He stated that as an active member, a trustworthy partner, and a responsible country, Vietnam will work with other nations to strengthen the UN, uphold international law, and strive for tangible benefits for its people, thereby building a more peaceful, equitable, inclusive, and better world for all. Regarding relations with Canada, the top Vietnamese leader expressed his belief that bilateral ties will remain firmly grounded in mutual trust, broaden through shared interests, and move toward a brighter future. The two countries have elevated their relationship to a "Strategic Partnership" anchored in eight pillars, aiming to address shared challenges, seize emerging opportunities, and contribute to a more secure, prosperous, and dynamic Indo-Pacific region. This elevation is a result of over five decades of friendship and cooperation, reflecting their commitment to jointly investing in the future. Hungary was also mentioned as one of Vietnam's leading important partners in Central and Eastern Europe, with Vietnam attaching importance to and wishing to continuously strengthen multifaceted ties with the country. General Secretary and President To Lam reiterated that Vietnam's foreign policy is based on independence, self-reliance, multilateralism, and diversification, alongside proactive and active international integration in a comprehensive and extensive manner. This visit marked his first working trip to the UN and the US since Vietnam successfully held its 14th National Party Congress and elections for the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils. The speech highlights Vietnam's commitment to promoting peace and cooperation on the international stage and contributing to the resolution of global challenges.
