Poipet Shop Owner Arrested for Assaulting and Threatening Housekeeper

She is accused of severely assaulting and detaining a widowed housekeeper who worked in her home. The victim, Outh Khon, 59, is a widow with no children or property, who made a living doing cleaning work for hire. She had been living and working at the suspect's residence for over three years. According to Lieutenant Colonel Brahm Teng, Chief of the Investigation and Suppression Office, the operation was carried out under the command of Brigadier General Paoun Bin, Commander of the Provincial Gendarmerie, with procedural coordination from Mr. Ket Vannarith, Prosecutor of the Provincial Court. Led by Lieutenant Colonel Til Tailiv, Commander of the Poipet City Gendarmerie Base, the team arrived at the scene. The suspect was apprehended at approximately 10:00 AM on June 28, 2026. A 30 cm long knife with a wooden handle was confiscated from the Kaka Salon, located in Baliley 1 Village, Poipet Sangkat, Poipet City. The suspect was then brought to the Poipet City Gendarmerie Base for questioning. Lieutenant Colonel Til Tailiv further stated that the incident began when the suspect's Chinese husband brought several mobile phones and computers to her for safekeeping. While Outh Khon was cleaning, three mobile phones fell out. She then sold these phones to a street vendor who buys broken phones, receiving 200,000 riels. Upon learning that the victim had sold the phones, the owner, the suspect, became enraged. She allegedly beat Outh Khon with a piece of wood, causing multiple injuries and bleeding. She also threatened to cut off the victim's fingers and toes with a knife and forbade her from leaving the house. Around 4:00 PM on June 14, 2026, Outh Khon seized an opportunity to escape. She climbed onto the roof of the house from the back, moved to the front of the salon, and descended along the iron bars. Once on the ground, she took a motorbike taxi to her sister's house in Mondul 4 for treatment. She subsequently filed a complaint at the Poipet City Gendarmerie Base. Lieutenant Colonel Til Tailiv added that after the arrest and questioning, the suspect confessed to the violent acts as accused by the victim. She admitted to being angry that the victim had sold the phones brought by her Chinese boyfriend. Based on the confession and the physical evidence, the City Gendarmerie has compiled a case file and forwarded it to the Provincial Gendarmerie Command for further legal proceedings. Currently, the suspect has been transferred to the Provincial Court by the Provincial Gendarmerie's Criminal Affairs Office to undergo legal procedures.
