Philippine Pineapples Begin Regular Shipments to UAE Market
An 18-metric ton shipment of Philippine MD2 pineapples has arrived in the UAE. Regular bi-weekly shipments are planned, aiming to expand the presence of Philippine agriculture in Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
THE Department of Agriculture (DA) said on Tuesday that an 18-metric ton (MT) shipment of fresh MD2 pineapples landed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The DA made the announcement after a ceremonial launch held at the Al Aweer Fruit and Vegetable Market in Dubai which was organized by the DA’s Office of the Agricultural Attaché for the Middle East, Africa, and India, and attended by officials from the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Dubai, as well as partners from the private sector. The shipment contained 1,500 boxes of fresh MD2 pineapples from farms in Tampakan, South Cotabato. The shipment arrived at the Port of Khor Fakkan on June 28, with regular shipments expected every two weeks. The DA said the shipments will expand the pineapple industry’s footprint in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, where demand is growing for imported fresh produce due to population growth and the demand from tourism.
