Tropical Depression Maymay weakens further; Signal No. 1 in 15 N. Luzon areas

Tropical Depression Maymay (international name: Kujira) has further weakened, the state weather bureau announced. However, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remains in effect in 15 areas in Northern Luzon as of Thursday afternoon. According to Pagasa's 2 p.m. update, Maymay was moving northwest at 15 kilometers per hour, located about 250 kilometers east of the northeastern coast of Luzon. Its maximum sustained winds were 15 meters per second (54 kph), with gusts of up to 20 m/s (72 kph). TCWS No. 1 indicates that strong winds are expected to affect the area due to the approaching tropical depression. Residents are warned that trees, especially in open areas, may be damaged by strong winds. Small houses and structures of very light materials are also expected to be affected.
