Cambodia Promotes Female Leadership in Water and Climate Change Management

A training workshop aimed at enhancing female leadership in the water resources and climate change sectors was held in Cambodia on August 5, 2026. The event was presided over by H.E. Lyeng Yuk Thaojetheada, Honorary President of the Cambodian Women's Association for Peace and Development. The workshop gathered key officials and gender focal points from various departments and units under the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, the Cambodian National Mekong Committee, the Tonle Sap Authority, and provincial departments of water resources and meteorology across all 25 provinces and the capital. H.E. Lyeng Yuk Thaojetheada stated that the training aims to further integrate gender mainstreaming into the water sector, strengthening the capacity of civil servants at all levels within the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology. It seeks to provide knowledge on gender issues and highlight the potential and necessity of effectively and safely promoting the participation and representation of women and girls. This initiative aligns with the gender equality promotion policies and vision outlined in the "Phase 1 Pentagonal Strategy" of the current government under Prime Minister Hun Manet. The Deputy Minister further emphasized that the leadership of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology continues to support and promote gender equality in the water sector by increasing the proportion and capacity of women, and fostering their active roles in decision-making at both national and sub-national levels. In conclusion, H.E. Lyeng Yuk Thaojetheada expressed strong confidence that all participants would diligently absorb the knowledge and experiences from the trainers and engage in fruitful discussions. She urged them to utilize the leadership skills acquired during the two-day training to contribute to their respective units and to the sustainable and inclusive advancement of gender equality within the water sector and society as a whole.
