Tropical Depression Weakens into Low Pressure Area off Hainan Island

According to a report from Vietnam's state-run Nhan Dan newspaper, a tropical depression weakened into a low-pressure area over the sea near China's Hainan Island on the evening of August 8. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting announced that as of 7 PM (local time), the center of the low-pressure area was located at approximately 19.2 degrees North latitude and 109.5 degrees East longitude, situated off Hainan Island, China. The maximum wind speed near the center has decreased to below 39 km/h, corresponding to a force less than 6. Over the next 12 hours, the low-pressure area is forecast to continue moving eastward-southeast at a speed of 10-15 km/h and is expected to further weaken and dissipate. However, the northern and central parts of the East Sea (including the Paracel Islands) will still experience strong west to southwest winds of force 6, occasionally reaching force 7 with gusts up to force 8. Wave heights are expected to be between 3-5 meters, indicating rough sea conditions will persist. Nhan Dan stated that this is the final update regarding this tropical depression.
