AKP Phnom Penh, July 15, 2026— Cambodia has hailed 2026 as a landmark year for its relations with France, pointing to the upcoming state visit of French President H.E. Emmanuel Macron and Cambodia's hosting of the 20th Francophonie Summit as two major milestones destined to elevate bilateral ties. The remarks were made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Prak Sokhonn, during the 236th French National Day celebrations on July 14 evening at the Residence of the French Ambassador in Phnom Penh. Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that Cambodia is honored to welcome President Macron later this year. He described the upcoming state visit as a historic occasion that reflects the deepening friendship and robust cooperation between the two nations. H.E. Prak Sokhonn also highlighted Cambodia's extensive preparations to host the 20th Francophonie Summit in Phnom Penh. He called the summit a monumental event for the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), which brings together 90 member states and governments. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the summit will serve as a vital platform for Francophone countries to champion solidarity, openness, dialogue, and cultural diversity, while expanding economic and people-to-people cooperation.
