Cambodia Breaks Ground on New Hospital and Schools in Ponhea Loeu District
Construction has begun on a new district hospital and two schools in Ponhea Loeu district, Kandal province, Cambodia. This initiative is part of the government's infrastructure investment aimed at improving healthcare and education services for citizens, viewed as a strategic investment in human capital.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new district hospital and two schools was held on September 8, 2026, in Ponhea Loeu district, Kandal province, Cambodia. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, H.E. Aun Pornmoniroth, as well as the Chairman of the Kandal Provincial Council and the Governor of Kandal province. Kandal Provincial Governor H.E. Kuoch Chamroeun stated that these new facilities are not only an addition to the modern physical infrastructure for healthcare and education services but also a strategic investment in valuable human capital. This initiative aims to improve the quality of life for citizens, protect and promote their health, and serve as a platform for nurturing bright intellects among students, who are the future pillars for developing Kandal province and the nation as a whole. The construction projects, a generous donation from the Royal Government under the wise leadership of Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Hun Manet, include a new, modern 4-story general inpatient building at Ponhea Loeu District Referral Hospital. This building will have a length of 50 meters, a width of 30 meters, totaling 113 rooms and accommodating up to 231 beds. It will be equipped with advanced medical technology and high-standard equipment, such as air conditioning systems, fire alarm systems, oxygen systems, elevators, surveillance cameras, and WIFI. Secondly, at Tep Phnom High School, a new 3-story school building will be constructed, measuring 45.5 meters in length and 9 meters in width, with a total of 15 classrooms and 10 restrooms. Thirdly, at Hun Sen Preah Thom Sre High School, another new 3-story school building of the same dimensions will be built, also featuring 15 classrooms and 10 restrooms. Deputy Prime Minister Aun Pornmoniroth expressed his congratulations to the leaders, officials, and staff of the Ponhea Loeu district administration, especially the doctors, medical staff, teachers, and students who will soon benefit from the new hospital and schools. He highlighted that the modern equipment and facilities, built to technical standards, will further enhance the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the health and education sectors in Ponhea Loeu district, Kandal province.
