13 arrested for robbing two gold shops

The Myanmar Police Force announced on August 1 that they have arrested 10 men and 3 women, along with evidence, who committed armed robbery at the Million Dollar Gold Shop in Chanmyathazi Township and the Poe Oo Gold Shop in Maha Aung Myay Township in Mandalay Region. It is reported that on July 20, six men arrived on three motorcycles at the Million Dollar Gold Shop on Manohari Road, between 62nd and 64th streets, in Chanmyathazi Township, fired shots to threaten staff, and fled with various gold ornaments valued at nearly 60 million kyats, weighing 85 kyats and 4 pay. In the investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, Htet Wai Kyaw (aka Ko Htet), a resident of (Sa) Ward in Chanmyathazi Township, who was involved in the crime, was arrested on July 23 at milepost 158 on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway, and six other men, including Thein Myint (aka Shwebo Maung Naing), who were involved in the crime, were subsequently arrested with evidence, according to the statement. According to the statement, a total of 11 perpetrators, including six men involved in the robbery of the Million Dollar Gold Shop, led by Htet Wai Kyaw (aka Ko Htet), and five accomplices, were apprehended with evidence including a total of 42 kyats, 14 pay, and 3 rwe of gold ornaments, 540 million kyats in cash, one pistol, two magazines, 27 bullets, four motorcycles, one slingshot, and 31 bolts (kun thee). It was revealed during the investigation that three individuals, including Thein Myint (aka Shwebo Maung Naing), who were involved in the Million Dollar Gold Shop robbery, had also committed a robbery at the Poe Oo Gold Shop in Maha Aung Myay Township in October 2023, and two accomplices, Htun Lin Aung (aka Naing Ko Ko) and Than Soe, were also identified and arrested, according to the statement. Therefore, the statement indicates that efforts are ongoing to legally prosecute the 13 individuals arrested in connection with the two gold shop robberies, consisting of 10 men and 3 women, and to apprehend the remaining fugitives and seize further evidence.
